The nature of technology is constantly changing, with the speed of communication presenting new challenges for schools. Schools are grappling with the complex nature of communication in the 21st century, amongst recent hoax bomb threats, social media, and privacy issues.

To address this growing concern, a collaborative initiative by Microsoft, Schoolzine, Datacom and other education leaders has formed Your Digital Partner workshops to offer schools a solution. After recent success in Brisbane, the workshop is to be held in Sydney on May 9 at Microsoft’s Head Office. The event aims to raise awareness of the latest technologies, digital strategies, school data insights and how they support communication management, alongside a panel discussion with industry experts on hot topics and trends for 2016.

The event’s special guest Ross McSwan, a barrister and nationally accredited mediator who is a regular presenter on the ‘School Law’ speaking circuit in Australia and New Zealand. Ross provides a valuable insight into schools’ duty of care around social media, how to develop a social media policy, and how the law is applied to critical social media incidents.

"One thing to be clear about is that it doesn’t start and end at the school gates. Incidents increasingly overlap with what happens on the weekend and school holidays,” said Mr McSwan.

The group’s collaboration with Ross McSwan cements their place as industry leaders in Edtech, providing the latest in digital news and technologies to schools so they can better engage with their wider community.

“We want to teach our youth to be global citizens in the digital age”, said Craig Josic (CJ), Chief Digital Officer of Schoolzine. “The workshop will help schools to understand how to navigate the complex digital landscape so they can better prepare their teachers and students. Our goal from this collaborative initiative is to improve schools communication and education through technology.” Mr Josic said.
